WHY STORYTELLING? We believe that by sharing individual stories of the Black community, we can bridge gaps and break down barriers that still exist within our streets, schools, businesses and workplaces. We believe that by elevating the stories of Black humans that are our sisters, brothers, teachers, children, mothers, fathers, activists, and leaders; that there can and will be positive change and understanding within Central Iowa to bring further growth and unity between our communities. 

HOW WILL BLACK LIVES OF DSM PROMOTE THEIR MESSAGE BEYOND SOCIAL MEDIA? Black Lives of DSM will always remain a voice of the people and provide a platform of freedom of speech. Goals for growth of this storytelling project include a website/blog, published book(s), art exhibits, podcasts, visual murals, fundraising to support Black community initiatives, policy change, and more.
